Honestly, I believe our entire problem on earth is human under-utilization not stupidity. We are metabolic machine systems designed to provide a stable environment for a very complex, highly parallel, neural network to run pattern matching algorithms that are our literal evolutionary advantage.
That we use them to play Bejeweled and make conspiracy theories is probably the biggest failure of human-kind. The average human has a innate rocket scientist built in; toss them a beer from across the room and that bottle probably won't hit the floor. The amount of processing a brain did to catch that beer is roughly the same amount as an egg-head used to draw up trajectories before we discovered ways for computers to do it better, faster, and cheaper. Now there is an app for that and the retired egg-head spends his time on Facebook getting radicalized by Russian trolls.
Productivity has skyrocketed because we've become more efficient. But we never considered that being needed is a human output of productivity and that feeling is part of what sews people into the fabric of their community, families, and world citizenship.
